Shortage of Construction Workers in NZ

Construction Worker Shortage

New Zealand needs up to another 60,000 construction workers over the next five years.  More than 250,000 people are already employed in the building sector.

The New Zealand government is coordinating the approach to solving the shortage through a coordinated effort of several ministers and ministries.  Together they will push forward with support for companies providing industry-specific training, via a range of initiatives including industry hubs.

"Together we will ensure the construction sector can deliver the right people at the right time with the right skills to meet our construction needs", Building and Construction Minister Jenny Salesa.
